Executive Committee of IFAS incorporated comments and suggestions to the ASBP-3 received from the relevant ministries and agencies of the Central Asian countries. At present the document is at the consultation stage in the Governments.

Expedition to the North Aral Sea was conducted in August-September 2011 by Professor of Geography at the University of the West Michigan Ph.Micklin, Dr. N.Aladin and Dr. I.Plotnikov of the Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences.

The main purpose of the expedition was to evaluate the success of a project to raise, stabilize, and improve the ecology of the Small Aral Sea.

In order to improve the organizational structure and legal framework of IFAS the Executive Committee held the regular working meeting of experts to prepare proposals for making amendments and additions to the statute documents of IFAS.

SPECA meeting will discuss a Plan of Action to Strengthen Stability and Sustainable Development of Afghanistan through Regional Economic Cooperation in Central Asia and the ways of its implementation.

EC IFAS Chairman participated in a panel session on "Ensuring Food Security in Central Asia» within IV Astana Economic Forum.

 

In his speech, Chairman of EC IFAS touched on the issues of the relationship of water resources and food security in Central Asia.

2 May 2011, a meeting of UN Deputy Secretary General, Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Noeleen Heyzer and the Chairman of EC IFAS Sagit Ibatullin took place in the office of Executive Committee. The newly appointed head of the subregional office of ESCAP for the Northern and Central Asia was presented to EC IFAS.

The 12th meeting of the Working Group on Monitoring and Assessment (2-4 May 2011) and the sixth meeting of the Working Group on Integrated Water Resources Management (4-5 May 2011) under the Water Convention will be held in Geneva on 2-5 May 2011.

2-3 March, 2011 within the framework of the project "Dam Safety in Central Asia: Capacity Building and Regional Cooperation" UNECE and IFAS organized a regional expert meeting in Almaty.

The Deputy Chairman of EC IFAS received the member of the European Parliament at EC IFAS headquarters on February 24. In the center of the discussion was the question about the effectiveness of the EU assistance to Central Asia in the water sector.

As part of the interim evaluation phase of the "CAREWIB" project the meeting of the Steering Committee for project implementation was held in Tashkent. The Steering Committee is presented by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation, financing the project activities, and structural bodies of IFAS - the Executive Committee and the Secretariat ICWC.
