The national consultations within the framework of the Aral Sea Basin programme elaboration (ASBP-3 for the period of 2011-2015) took place on the 2nd of March in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The meeting was held in the Ministry of agriculture and water resources.

The participants of the meeting included Chairman of the Executive Committee IFAS (EC IFAS) and its member-representative of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the regional advisers of the UN ECE and German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), and responsible specialists from the interested ministries and official bodies and national branches of the IFAS regional structures – ICWC and ICSD.

In the opening statement EC IFAS chairman S.Ibatullin gave summary about EC IFAS activities during chairmanship of Kazakhstan in IFAS, in particular, preparatory activities and the ASBP-3 development process.

Afterward it has been highlighted that by the EC IFAS the Regional working group was established, the working schedule of activities and the Framework document on the ASBP development were developed. This document includes aims, tasks, and project selection criteria, structure of works, including project implementation monitoring and terms of reference.

Representatives from the ministries and the official bodies of the Republic of Uzbekistan notified that in present the ASBP-3 project proposals are in the development process based on the criteria set in the Framework document.

The working trip of the EC IFAS representatives included the visit to the southern Priaral’e, where they had an opportunity to introduce IFAS project implementation process in the Republic of Karakalpakstan aiming stabilization of the ecological situation and improvement of social being of population of Priaral’e suffered from the ecological crisis.
