Suw damjasy altyn danesi - “A drop of water is a grain of gold”

Ashgabat hosted the International Water Forum dedicated to celebration of the “A drop of water is a grain of gold” day. This forum included scientific conference with involvement of scientists and experts in the area of hydraulic engineering and melioration; the exhibition “World experience and latest technology for effective water use” which presented equipment, facilities, and materials produced on the basis of technologies created for ensuring rational water supply and water use.

The International forum informed the international publicity not only about achievements of science and technology in water saving and rational use of water resources, but became a place for discussion and exchange of ideas and strategies for introduction of scientific and technological developments to activities of the relevant organizations of Central Asia.

Topic of the Forum included the following directions:

  • International water objects: problems and cooperation objectives.
  • Transboundary water use (water distribution, run-off diversion).
  • Transboundary water objects protection (ensuring water use safety in emergency situations, unified ecological standards, ecosystems protection and restoration, safety of hydraulic structures, responsibility for the violation of international water law).
  • Monitoring of international waters, instrument for control and measurements. Urban and industrial water supply. Renovation technologies for constructions and aqueducts.
  • Alternative sources for water supply.
In considering these areas of development of regional water cooperation the EC IFAS presented information about the Fund’s actions on enhancing activities, developing partnership with international organizations and elaboration process of the Third Action Program for the Aral Sea Basin for the period of 2011-2015 (ASBP-3).
