The meeting with Andrew Sisson, the regional director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) took place in the EC IFAS office. USAID intends to provide assistance to the countries in the Region in achieving sustainable and market agreement in water resources management in the Aral Sea basin.
The project proposals presented for consideration have two activities directions: assessment of the Region’s vulnerability to climate change and development of mutually beneficial dialogue and cooperation in multipurpose use of water resources taking into account the following linkage – “water – energy – agricultural sector – water and food security – regional stability” and climate change processes.
USAID emphasized that collaboration and cooperation with the International Fund for saving the Aral Sea within the implementation of these projects are essential and necessary. The sustainable mechanism for water resources management requires reliable, competent and responsible local body which will be intended to assist in the negotiations processes and conducting control for the activities undertaken within the developed mechanism.
