2-3 March, 2011 within the framework of the project "Dam Safety in Central Asia: Capacity Building and Regional Cooperation" UNECE and IFAS organized a regional expert meeting in Almaty.

The Deputy Chairman of EC IFAS received the member of the European Parliament at EC IFAS headquarters on February 24. In the center of the discussion was the question about the effectiveness of the EU assistance to Central Asia in the water sector.

As part of the interim evaluation phase of the "CAREWIB" project the meeting of the Steering Committee for project implementation was held in Tashkent. The Steering Committee is presented by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation, financing the project activities, and structural bodies of IFAS - the Executive Committee and the Secretariat ICWC.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Dr. Kerri-Ann Jones made an introductory visit to EC IFAS.


During the visit to the region Assistant Secretary of State met with representatives of science in order to introduce with the existing regional challenges in the field of environment and health.

EC IFAS was invited to assist in the preparation of the World Water Forum by orginizers.

The project Capacity building in data administration for assessing transboundary water resources in the countries of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA)” is developed within the implementation activities of the UNECE “Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes”. 


The final draft of the ASBP-3 was presented during the high-level meeting of the IFAS Board members and representatives of the Donor community


The Donor Coordination Conference for the Third Aral Sea Basin Program- 3 (ASBP-3) took place in Almaty on December 9th.

After discussions of the proposed ASBP-3 a Donors’ Statement was unanimously adopted expressing the full support of the Program and the readiness of donors to work together with IFAS and the Governments of IFAS member states in its implementation.

USAID’s grant assistance to IFAS supports the elaboration of a long-term comprehensive regional water resources management agreement by providing thorough analysis of the economic and welfare ramifications of optimum water-resource management in the Aral Sea basin.
