The working meeting of the Expert group on improving the structure and legal base of IFAS took place on October 23 in Almaty.


The Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan ratified an intergovernmental agreement between Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on the status of the International Fund for saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) and its organizations.


On October 12th the European Parliament held High Level Public Hearing on the Aral Sea problems with the participation of representatives of the international political and economic organizations, experts and analysts.


October 1, in Aralsk and Kazalinsk the winners and finalists of the international competition "The Aral Sea: yesterday, today and tomorrow" were awarded. 


The Executive Committee IFAS and “Asar-Bereke” Foundation together with the general partner – Kazakhstan-Russian Medical University organized the charity action on providing affordable high quality medical assistance using the mobile medical equipment in the remote villages of Aral and Kazaly regions of Kyzylorda oblast most affected by the Aral Sea drying out.


France hosted the eighth conference "Europe – International Network of Basin Organizations» (Europe-INBO) in the period from 22nd to 24th September. The conference was attended by 177 representatives of national administrations, basin organizations, nongovernmental organizations and companies from 42 countries.

Representatives of the World Bank had a working visit to EC-IFAS. Coordinators of preparation of the Program aimed at improving the hydrometeorological and climatological services in Central Asia, Vladimir Tsirkunov and Salman Anis provided information on the final stage of preparation to implementation of the Program on improving Hydromets service in Central Asia prior to approval by the Bank’s management.

An international training course for high-level officials and experts from Central Asia opened today in Moscow. In a week-long training, delegations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will have the opportunity to find out about the experience of the Russian Federation with regard to the maintenance and management of hydro-technical installations in that country, as well as to hear about recent scientific developments in this area.


On July 29, 2010 Chairman of the Executive Committee Sagit Ibatullin addressed the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna. 


On July 20 in Ashgabat under the auspices of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) the high-level meeting “Dialogue on Water Resources issues: Implementing decisions of the Summit of IFAS and the outcome of the visit of UN Secretary General to the countries of Central Asia" was conducted.
