In the period of mid-February – beginning of March 2010 the national consultations within the framework of the Third Aral Sea Basin Programme (ASBP-3) development are planned to take place in each of five countries.

The consultative meeting in Kazakhstan took place in the Executive Committee IFAS on the 18th of February.


During the consultative donor meeting held on the 3rd of February, the Executive Committee of IFAS presented intermediate results on activities carried out in cooperation with donor and international organizations, which participated in this meeting. The activities discussed are related to organization of international experts’ assistance in the elaboration of the Third Aral Sea Basin Programme for the period of 2011-2015.


On the 2nd of February the meeting with the UN ECE representatives Bo Libert and Gulnara Roll took place in the office of the Executive Committee IFAS. The meeting was organized to discuss possibilities for implementation of the National Policy Dialogues on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA). The idea of the programme is to establish national coordination groups involving interested parties, including ministries. Coordination groups will be designed to organize workshops aiming to discuss national priorities within the possible projects and programmes on IWRM.


The working meeting within the project proposal of France and the UN ECE - “Strengthening capacity for data administration and exchange for monitoring and assessment of transboundary water resources in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA)” was held in the office of the Executive Committee IFAS.

The project proposal was developed by the International Office of Water with involvement of International Water Assessment Centre and the French Ministry of ecology, energy, sustainable development and sea, within the framework of activities covered by the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (UN ECE).


The First meeting of the Working Group on Institutional and Legal Strengthening and the Development of Aral Sea Basin Programme - 3 took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, 10-11 December 2009. The meeting was convened by the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) and facilitated by the UNECE under the program on Regional Dialogue and Cooperation on Water Resources Management in Central Asia, financed by the Government of Germany through GTZ (German Agency for technical cooperation).


As a part of implementation of the task of the Heads of the Central Asian states–founders of the International Fund for saving the Aral Sea with regard to the development of cooperation aimed at improvement of ecological and socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea basin, the IFAS Board meeting took place in Almaty on 3 December 2009 under chairmanship of the first Deputy Prime-Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of IFAS Board U.E.Shukeyev with participation of the Board members from IFAS state-founders.
